Ritchie Valens Picture
The professional career of Ritchie Valens lasted a period of eight months, during which time he recorded some very influential songs of the 1950s rock and roll era. Richard Steven Valenzuela was born in Pacoima, a suburb of Los Angeles, on May 13, 1941. Brought up hearing traditional Mexican mariachi music, as well as flamenco guitar, R&B and jump blues, by the age of 5 he expressed an interest in making music of his own. He was encouraged by his father to take up guitar and trumpet, and it is also known that he later taught himself the drums. One day, a neighbour came across Ritchie trying to play a guitar that had only two strings.

I was walkin' down the street
Mindin' my own affair
When two police grabbed me
Unaware
They says, 'Your name, Henry?'
I says, 'Why sho'
He says, 'You the boy I been lookin' for'

I was framed
Framed, I was blamed
Fra-a-amed
Well, I never knew nothin'
But I always get framed
Oh, framed

(short guitar riff)

Spoken:

They took him in the line up
And let those bright lights shine
There was ten poor souls
Like me in that line
I knew I was a victim
Of someone's evil plan
When a stool-pigeon walked in
And says;
(sings) 'That's your man!'

I was framed
Framed, I was blamed
Oh, framed, framed, framed
Well, I never knew nothin'
But I always get framed

(short guitar riff)

Spoken:

Well, the prosecuting attorney
Stared-a prosecutin' me
Man, that cat didn't give me the one
But the, third degree
He says, 'Where were you
On the night, July 19, 1953?'
'Man, I was just home, just-a
Tweedle-e-dee'.

(sings)
I was framed
Oh, framed, I was blamed
Oh, framed, framed, framed
Well, I never knew nothin'
But I always get framed
Oh, framed

Oh, framed.
